Are you torn between the Tecno Camon 40 and its slightly more advanced sibling, the Camon 40 Pro 4G? Both are part of Tecno’s latest lineup for 2025, offering impressive features for their price. But what sets them apart, and most importantly, which one should you buy? Let’s dive into the details.
1. Design & Build Quality

Both phones sport sleek designs inspired by flagship aesthetics, but there are some key differences:

- The Camon 40 Pro features a curved display, giving it a premium feel with smooth edges that fit comfortably in your hand. However, this sleekness makes it slightly slippery.
- The Camon 40, on the other hand, has a flat display with thicker, grippy frames and larger buttons, making it easier to hold without a case.
When you add the cases included in the box:

- The Pro’s textured hard case enhances its grip and looks stunning.
- The Camon 40’s silicone case feels cheap and it looks better without it.
In terms of durability:

- The Camon 40 Pro is rated IP68/IP69, meaning it’s dust-tight and can survive underwater up to 2 meters for 30 minutes.
- The standard Camon 40 offers an IP66 rating, making it resistant to dust and light water exposure but not submersion.

Both phones have plastic backs with aluminum-coated plastic frames. The layouts are identical, with power buttons and volume rockers on the right side, an action button on the left, and USB-C ports at the bottom. However:

- The Pro supports only a dual SIM setup.
- The standard Camon 40 supports dual SIM or single SIM + SD card.
Colors available include Glacier White, Galaxy Black with Emerald Green as an option for both.
2. Display Differences

Both devices feature identical specs for their displays:
- 6.8-inch AMOLED display
- 120Hz refresh rate
- Resolution: 1080 x 2436 pixels with HDR support
- In-display fingerprint sensors
The difference lies in durability:
- The Pro uses Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, offering better scratch and drop resistance.
- The standard Camon 40 uses Panda King Glass protection.
While Tecno hasn’t disclosed peak brightness levels, both displays are ultra-bright according to their claims. However, the Pro’s curved display may make bezels appear slightly more noticeable.
3. Performance & Software Features

Under the hood, both phones run on the same hardware:
- Processor: MediaTek Helio G100 Ultimate
- Software: Android 15 with Tecno’s HiOS 15 skin
- RAM/Storage:
- Camon 40: Options for 128GB or 256GB storage with 8GB RAM
- Camon 40 Pro: Only available in 256GB storage with 8GB RAM
Benchmark scores:
- Camon 40 Pro: Geekbench (736 single-core, 2004 multi-core), Antutu (439,056)
- Camon 40: Geekbench (726 single-core, 1974 multi-core), Antutu (423,991)
Both devices promise up to three years of OS updates, ensuring long-term usability.
4. Camera Comparison

Tecno continues to improve its camera game:
- The Camon 40 Pro features a 50MP main sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a depth sensor. It also includes Tecno’s new One-Tap FlashSnap button, perfect for capturing motion shots or activating your voice assistant.
- Selfie Camera: 50MP, capable of shooting videos at up to 2K resolution.
- The standard Camon 40 has similar specs but comes with a lower-resolution selfie camera (32MP) and also shoots videos at up to 2K resolution.
In low-light photography tests, the Pro seems to perform slightly better.
5. Battery Life & Charging Speed

Both devices pack impressive batteries:
- Capacity: 5200mAh
- Charging Speed: Both support 45W fast charging, getting from zero to full in under an hour.
Despite their slim designs, these phones deliver excellent battery life that can easily last a full day of heavy use.
6. Hidden Details.

Here are some additional features worth noting:
- Both phones include an action button for FlashSnap photography or remapping to other functions like flashlight or voice assistant.
- Dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support enhance audio quality.
- Newly introduced AI features improve usability across both devices.
- Mobile anti-theft features provide added security.
- Dual Space allows you to separate personal data from work-related content.
7. Pricing & Final Verdict

Now let’s talk about pricing:
- The Tecno Camon 40 is priced between ₦275,000–₦307,000 depending on specs.
- The Tecno Camon 40 Pro starts at ₦353,000 but may go higher due to demand (mine cost ₦370,000).
Which One Should You Buy?

If you’re on a tight budget and need a reliable phone for everyday use, go for the standard Camon 40—it’s one of the best budget options available! But if you value better cameras, premium durability (IP69 rating), and enhanced design features like curved displays, the extra ₦80K makes the Camon 40 Pro worth considering.
